Maxtor kicks off Backup Awareness Month

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, August 21 - 2005 at 15:56
  • PRESS RELEASE

Throughout September, under the banner of 'Backup Awareness Month,' Maxtor is aiming to raise awareness of how easy it is to back up data, and of the importance of doing so not only for businesses, but in an era of digital photographs and music downloads, for home PC users as well.

Thanks to the rich variety of options available from Maxtor, it is now possible to back up personal computers or small business servers onto external hard drives, automatically everyday with minimum fuss. "External drives are an ideal choice, when users are looking at purchasing reliable solutions that will ensure an uninterrupted operation, by making sure that critical & valuable data is backed up regularly & securely," said Rajeev Mukul, GM, Maxtor Middle East & Africa.

Maxtor offers a complete line of award-winning backup and storage solutions for home users, creative professionals and small business users. Product include the Maxtor Shared Storage™ drive for home networks, Maxtor OneTouch™ II family of external storage and backup solutions, and Maxtor OneTouch II Small Business Edition for backing up small business servers. Maxtor also delivers retail hard drives kits and accessories, offering its customers a choice and flexibility for their storage needs.

During the month, Maxtor will be supporting its retail partners by providing them with extensive point of sale (POS) informational material to raise awareness on the shop floor of the importance of data backup. Maxtor will also use the GITEX, the world's third largest IT exhibition, taking place in Dubai from the 25th to the 29th of September to draw visitors' attention to the issue of data backup. Not only is Maxtor offering information, it is also giving away two Maxtor OneTouch II hard drives every day. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to take part in daily giveaway contests on Emirates Radio Two which will be broadcasting live from exhibition grounds. There's even an opportunity to take part in a daily raffle to win a Maxtor OneTouch II drive on www.backupawareness.com.

As part of the campaign, Maxtor is promoting a five-step "best practices" program for basic protection.

1. Develop a backup schedule--backup data daily or at minimum weekly.

2. Backup everything--today users can easily backup all of their computer hard drive data. No need to spend time sorting through every file or folder. Invest in a storage solution that's twice the size of your internal hard drive to give your system room to grow.

3. Do it automatically--set it and forget it. Use a solution that's easy to set up and provides automatic backups.

4. Rotate backups--give added protection in case of an earthquake, fire, flood, or theft. Use two drives and rotate one offsite.

5. Don't procrastinate--unfortunately, the need to backup data is often a lesson learned from an unfortunate experience. Don't let it happen to you. Have you done it today?
