Emirates Glass wins major supply deal for Concourse 2 at Dubai International Airport

Mr. Jerry Dowling, General Manager of Emirates Glass, said: "We have been contracted by the main contractors acting on behalf of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority to supply 56,000 square meters of high performance glass to the Concourse 2 project at Dubai International Airport. It is probably one of the most challenging glazing tasks in the world today, considering the shape of the complex structure and glass specifications."

The technical know-how and the company's track record in completing major projects will ensure smooth execution of this mission."

Concourse 2 is part of Dubai Civil Aviation's US$2.5 billion Phase-2 of the Airport expansion project. The project also includes construction of Terminal 3, Concourse 3 and a Mega Cargo Terminal. Dedicated exclusively to Emirates, Concourse 2 will include a multi-level structure for departures and arrivals, incorporating 27 contact gates and 59 passenger-loading bridges. There is also a 300-room hotel and health club that will include both five and three star rooms. A further 10,000 sq meters of commercial space will be home to Dubai Duty Free and restaurants.

The company will begin deliveries in autumn this year and the project is expected to be completed by mid-summer 2006. Renowned for high-performance in light and heat control, Emirates Glass products are highly suitable for the stringent requirements at airport buildings.

Emirates Glass had previously supplied its high-performance glass to the existing Concourse 1 at the Dubai International Airport. This is besides other airports in the UAE which have chosen the company's superior quality products. Among the recent major international projects the company had undertaken was the supply of its products to a major extension at Changi Airport in Singapore.

Faced with a huge upsurge in demand for its high-performance glass products throughout the Gulf region and beyond, Emirates Glass has undertaken a major upgrade of its production capacity and this new equipment is now largely in operation.

Furthermore, Dubai Investments, the parent company of Emirates Glass, recently signed an MoU to acquire Riyadh-based Saudi American Glass (SAG). With this, the combined coated glass production capacity will touch nearly 3.5 million square meters a year. Emirates Glass has been doubling production capacity year-on-year for the past four years and has been investing heavily in new equipment and capacity, which will place the company in a very strong position to supply the demands of this market.

Emirates Glass at present coats 800,000 square meters of glass a year for construction projects. The company is supplying high-performance energy-saving glass to a very high proportion of the tower development in the Emirate.
