Dubai Municipality has announced their participation in GITEX Dubai 2005 under the Dubai eGovernment umbrella.

Throughout the duration of GITEX, Dubai Municipality will be showcasing a wide range of eServices to spread awareness and promote these services among Dubai's residents.

The services that Dubai Municipality will be focussing on during GITEX include E-Tendering Management Service, Centralised Billing Presentment Service, Dubai Municipality Clinic Health Certificate, Food Control Health Certificates, Food Import and Export and Online Advertisement Permit eService.

"Dubai Municipality has been participating in GITEX as a part of Dubai eGovernment. In the recent years there has been a marked increase in the use of electronic services among various segments of Dubai's population including the corporate sector and the residents," said Abdul Majed Abdul Rahman, Assistant Director of Information Technology Department, Dubai Municipality. "Keeping in line with the changing requirements of customers in the emirate, Dubai Municipality has been constantly developing new eServices with the use of the latest technology, to simplify the lives of our customers."

"GITEX Dubai 2005 presents ample opportunities for Dubai Municipality to showcase and promote its services to a huge audience. GITEX is the premier IT exhibition in the region and attracts visitors and exhibitors from around the world, and we look forward to drawing mileage from the reach and popularity of the event," he added.

The E-Tendering Management Service of Dubai Municipality is part of its initiative to provide better services to its users by minimising the frequency of supplier visits to Dubai Municipality and providing them the facility to download and respond to tender documents online or to purchase them by credit cards or e-Dirhams.

The Centralised Billing Service of Dubai Municipality enables online payment through credit cards and e-Dirhams in order to provide a more convenient mechanism of payment to customers. The service allows customers to view their outstanding payments for all eServices in one centralised view and make payments against multiple vouchers through a single online transaction.

Dubai Municipality also issues the Clinic Health Certificate which primarily serves companies in Dubai requiring Occupational Health Cards or Medical Certificates for their employees. The Occupational Health Cards are a mandatory requirement for companies operating in the hotel industry, nursery schools, hairdressing saloons and such other areas where hygiene is extremely essential.

The Food Control Health Certificate issued by Dubai Municipality mainly serves companies in Dubai that operate in the food industry, producing and exporting food for human consumption. Through this service customers can apply online for a range of certificates such as Export Food Health Certificate, GCC Export Health Certificate, Radiation Test Certificate and New Food Label Certificate. Customers can also check the status of their application and edit or cancel their requests using this online service.

The Food Import and Export service primarily serves the food importer in the area of importing and re-exporting food items by allowing users to submit online requests for these services.

Dubai Municipality also offers the Online Advertisement Permit Service which allows customers to obtain advertising permits faster and easier. By using this service customers will be able to perform tasks such as requesting a new medium permit and cancellation of the permit, online.

Services such as provision of planning permits, online survey data, product testing, waste collection, clearance of importation of toys and permit for visiting wildlife sanctuaries are also offered by Dubai Municipality.

Dubai Municipality recently introduced a Suggestions Scheme that aims at creating a mechanism to encourage creativity and attract suggestions from internal and external customers that would result in continuous improvement and development of working methods, systems and procedures at Dubai Municipality, while maintaining high quality of services.

"We are keen to participate in GITEX Dubai 2005 as it will present new opportunities for us to explore, while enabling us to broaden the portfolio of our eServices that will benefit all our customers," concluded Abdul Rahman.
