Sheikh Saud opens seminar on Government Excellence Award

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, opened the two- day introductory seminar on the Ras Al Khaimah Government Excellence Award here at the Hotel Hilton on Monday.
He said that the objective of the Award was to create a competitive environment wherein the government sector can improve efficiency and contribute towards the development of society in a bigger way by adopting best practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Latif, Director of the Sheikh Saqr Programme for Government Excellence, said that the programme would provide a model for development that can be adopted by various governmental and other departments in evaluating their performance and quality improvement efforts.
"The programme has been conceptualized by assimilating internationally acclaimed best practices in quality management. The RAK Government Excellence Award would help in enhancing the government sector by providing incentives and by fostering constructive competition within the sector", he said.
He added that the Award would be divided into nine distinct categories, three in the organisational level and six in the micro level, for distinguished performance in the government sector. The various categories of the Award in the organisational level would include the distinguished small-size and large- size department, distinguished department in customer service and the distinguished electronic department.
The micro- level awards would be assigned for the best employee, best team, best technical project, best developmental project, best administrative experiment and the best unit.
He said that it is compulsory for all government departments in Ras Al Khaimah to contest for the distinguished department category of the award while it is optional for them to take part in other categories.
The duration of the Award commences in September every year and extends until May of the ensuing year.
Mohammed Buhaiji and Dr. Ahmed Musairat presented papers on various topics at the seminar. The seminar will conclude on Tuesday.
