Empost courier service has been made mandatory for all applicants except emergency passport service seekers, starting September 1, 2005.

Applicants are required to use the Jawaz Service while submitting their applications. Empost has set up counters at the Embassy and the Consulate, to enable clients to avail the service. Applicants are required to purchase an AED 10 sticker.

H.E. Mr. Chandra Mohan Bhandari, Ambassador of India said: "We feel that the Empost delivery service for return of serviced passports and other consular documents are in the interest of all the applicants as they do not need to make a second visit to the Embassy or the Consulate. For many the return visit costs more than AED 10 that they need to pay for the Empost service. Jawaz service helps us as we do not have to service position officials at the counter for return delivery and they are able to service more passports and other consular documents. It is a win-win situation."

The Ambassador also observed that Empost`s trial service for the past 10 months has been incident-free, reliable and on time. Applicants do not need to check back with the Embassy or Consulate whether their passports are ready for delivery. Jawaz service delivers the processed passports as soon as all formalities are completed.

Sultan Al Midfa, General Manager Empost said: "The agreement with the Indian Embassy and Consulate is part of Empost's commitment to reach out to more sections of the society and make our diverse services accessible to the widest possible audience. Providing premier quality customer service remains at the core of Empost's operations, and we will constantly look to introduce innovative services and facilities that can benefit a large section of the UAE's population."

The Indian Embassy and Consulate hands over a large number of passports to Empost at the end of each day. Empost scans the details using its systems and technologies in order to be delivered at the earliest to the applicants. When the passport is ready for delivery, Empost notifies the applicant about the same, following which the courier will arrive at the applicant's doorstep at an agreed time. To receive the document, applicants must produce that part of the Empost sticker they have retained, along with an identification document, such as driving licence.

In addition to the Indian Embassy, Empost has entered into partnerships with the consulates of Syria, Saudi and the Philippines to deliver passports and consular documents to their respective clients through the Jawaz service.
