The three-day AutoParts Re-export Show, which began at Expo Centre Sharjah on September 11, 2005, strictly adheres to the policy of allowing only genuine parts to be exhibited.
'The AutoParts Re-export show is an opportunity for us to interact with consumers, dealers, suppliers and re-exporters on a single platform,' said Ms Alison Coady of ABPC, Middle East.
The ABPC has placed leaflets and banners, printed in both English and Arabic, in several locations across the Show floor to educate both the exhibitors as well as visitors about the various aspects of usage of counterfeit parts.
'We are utilizing the event to not only raise awareness about the physical and financial dangers of counterfeit parts, but also providing information on how to detect fake parts and the consequences of infringements and packaging copies,' said Ms. Coady.
According to ABPC, the most commonly counterfeited parts are small consumables like spark plugs, brake pads, filters etc. Major car parts like bonnets and windshields too are counterfeited.
In 2004, the number of fake automobile parts seized across the Middle East, which is considered a re-export hub for car parts, exceeded quarter of a million.
'The Middle East, though a hub for re-export of car parts, has a long way to go. There is a lack of awareness and to some extent confusion over what a fake part is,' said Ms. Coady.
'Fake parts have the ability to not only cause damage to an automobile but also reduce the resale value. It is also a contributing factor in accidents. We would like to raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of usage of fake parts through platforms like the AutoParts Re-export show so that people are informed and make a safe choice when it comes to car maintenance,' she said.
Formed in March 2002, the ABPC is the first Automotive Coalition in the world that was officially created with a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the founding members including several global car manufacturers
The Autoparts Re-export Show is being organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
AutoParts Re-export Show certified 'clean' by ABPC
Dubai-based motor industry anti-counterfeiting group, the Automotive Brand Protection Coalition (ABPC), has certified the AutoParts Re-export, which is currently on at Expo Centre Sharjah, as a clean show, meaning that the event is not exhibiting any fake parts and also there are no infringements of Intellectual Property Rights and copyright violations.
