DCCI discusses ways of bilateral cooperation with Djibouti Chamber of Commerce

Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee, Director General of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), received Mr. Mohammed Omar Dabar, Secretary General of Djibouti Chamber of Commerce.
Al Mutaiwee welcomed the secretary general of the Djiboutian chamber and stressed the importance of enhancing the bilateral cooperation between the business communities in Dubai and Djibouti through exchanging views, attending world economic forums and conferences and participating in the trade exhibitions which the DCCI is organizing, due to its importance in supporting the activities of businessmen and their trade ties with their counterparts all over the world.
"The DCCI represents the interests of the business community in the region as we provide the businessmen with various outstanding services which help them facilitate and develop their activities and businesses such as the issue of the certificates of origin. The DCCI also has a contribution in mediation between the commercial disputed parties, in addition to providing businessmen with all necessary information about the economic situation and trade movement in several countries in the world, receiving commercial delegates and setting up business groups and councils," said Al Mutaiwee.
He showed readiness to receive an official trade delegation from Djibouti in the second half of December or the beginning of January 2006, due to the DCCI's heavy schedule with various important events in the coming months.
The DCCI's Director General expressed his pleasure to host the Trade Promotion Organization conference due to be held in Dubai in December 2006. He invited the secretary general of the Djiboutian chamber to attend this significant conference due to the important economic issues which the conference will be discussing.
Mr. Dabar highlighted the importance for the Djiboutian chamber to benefit from the DCCI's pioneering experience to help upgrading the work system at the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce through setting a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two chambers of commerce. He added that such an agreement would help enhance the promotion of business activities in Djibouti, in addition to supporting the investment environment and effectively participating in economic conferences and exhibitions.
"Signing a bilateral cooperation agreement between the DCCI and the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce is quite important for us as it would help improve commerce in Djibouti and enhance the position of our businessmen and investors through supporting their relations with their counterparts in Dubai and to jointly promote the activities of both chambers," said Mr. Dabar.
He pointed out that the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce includes more than 3,000 registered members and that it plans to send an official trade delegation to visit the DCCI to be well introduced to the business community in Dubai and discuss ways to enhance commercial cooperation between the two chambers.
The secretary general of the Djiboutian chamber visited a number of DCCI's departments, mainly the Department of Commercial Services, as invited by the DCCI's director general.
Dubai's total imports from Djibouti in 2003 reached AED 19.5 million (US Dollar 5.3 million), while Dubai's total exports to Djibouti in the same year hit AED 22.5 million (US Dollar 6.1 million), and Dubai's total re-exports to Djibouti in 2003 reached AED 125.7 million (US Dollar 34.2 million).
