DSO is a Dubai Government Initiative to build the world's most integrated technology park for micro- and opto electronics and be a leading center for advanced innovation, design and development and manufacturing for the semiconductor industry.
Scalise presently serves as president of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) based in San Jose, California, where he directs a staff focused on International Trade and Government Affairs, workforce, technology, environmental-safety and health and communications. Additionally he currently serves on President George W. Bush's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology as well as several boards, including the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco where he is Chairman of the Board and is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Conference of Chairman of the Federal Reserve System, Cadence Design Systems, and iSuppli Corporation.
'George has one of the world's best reputations in the semiconductor industry. He is a highly respected technology industry spokesperson and carries a special interest and expertise in technology, international trade and competition issues,' said Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni, Vice Chairman, DSO. 'He will be an invaluable asset to us as we continue grow the number of technology-based companies that have opened operations within DSO and contribute to the overall economic development in Dubai.'
Launched in January of 2003, DSO offers a solution to high cost semiconductor development through its business ready infrastructure. Encompassing regional talent, financial incentives and subsidies on state of the art EDA tools and technology, DSO will enable companies to quickly set up shop and accelerate time to market of their electronic products.
'Dubai is the commercial center of the United Arab Emirates and is emerging economically and technologically faster than anyplace in the world. The government has designed and is implementing DSO as a specific technology park committed to semiconductor design, development and manufacturing. I am delighted to be part of their efforts,' said Scalise. 'With the success that Dubai has had in diversifying their economy and their proven experience in attracting foreign investments, I believe that this will be a win - win situation for the country and the companies coming for the DSO opportunity.'
'The executive positions that George has held at Apple Computer, National Semiconductor, Maxtor, Advanced Micro Devices, Fairchild Semiconductor and Motorola Semiconductor will provide additional inroads to the technology drivers of the industry,' added Knorr.
As a founding member of the Semiconductor Research Corporation, an industry-funded organization that provides resources for pre-competitive semiconductor research at American universities, Scalise will play a crucial role in continued development of DSO's university technology programs.
