The BSA pavilion will host a number of events aimed at raising awareness among visitors from different sections of the society about the detrimental effects of the use of pirated software. BSA will also highlight the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and adhering to the Copyright laws.

Jawad Al Redha, Co-Chairman, BSA Middle East, said: "Software piracy has emerged as a major threat that slows down economic growth of countries around the world. It has become crucial for countries in the region to take strict measures to limit this illegal practice, and help create a healthy environment to develop the local IT sectors to facilitate an effective merging of national economies in the international market."

BSA will distribute brochures, booklets and printouts related to issues concerning software piracy. The booklets will highlight the negative effects of software piracy on the global economic system in general and the local economies in particular, as well as the measures to be adopted to limit this pernicious practice. BSA will ensure strict monitoring at the "GITEX Computer Shopper 2005" exhibition to prevent any illegal software trade, thereby rendering the exhibition piracy-free for the fourth consecutive year.

"We greatly appreciate the efforts of the UAE government for its continued commitment in fighting piracy by supporting BSA's initiatives and more importantly by introducing suitable legislations and policies. Tackling a serious issue like piracy cannot be successful without the backing of the government, especially considering the magnitude of the problem," said Al Redha.

"The host of measures taken by BSA and its allies to reduce piracy level in the Middle East will help enhance the region's status in the global market and accelerate its transformation into a digital society. The participation of leading international IT companies in the GITEX Dubai 2005 exhibition reflects the pioneering status the UAE has achieved in the IT industry through adoption of strict measures to protect Intellectual Property Rights," Al Redha concluded.
