The move is part of the group's expansion plans for the region and a commitment to fast track the development of their integral operation and maintenance capabilities.

The Saudi Oger Group was formed in Riyadh in 1978 and since then has grown in to a major player in the Mid East civil engineering market, with multiple divisions, subsidiaries and affiliates, in Saudi Arabia and abroad. Currently the group has eight offices in Saudi Arabia, offices in the UK, France and Switzerland with further regional offices in Lebanon, Jordan and Morocco.

Commenting on the new entity Oger Dubai, Mazen Fayed, Corporate Communication Manager said, "Our business strategy is to expand throughout the region, we feel our presence in Dubai will further enhance the Oger brand and meet the demands of the dynamic local real estate market".

The success of the group lies in its unique ability to integrate western technical expertise with its local business knowledge, cultural sensibility and its undoubted service quality. Some of the major projects that Oger has successfully completed in the Kingdom are, King Faysal Hospital in Riyadh, Le Meridien Towers in Mecca, King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh, on the otherhand the Saudi Oger group is also building Saudi Aramco's third party cogeneration program with IP (1,070 MW & 4.4 million lbs. of steam power).

Saudi Oger has also moved in to the telecommunications market aggressively. The group already has substantial interests and activities through their Oger Telecom division. OGER Telecom manages the 3rd license in South Africa, Cell C (Pty) Ltd, with 60 per cent of the shares being controlled by Saudi Oger group. Last month the Government of Turkey signed a share sale agreement giving them a 55 per cent stake in Turk Telekom. Oger Telecom provides communications based on second and third generation systems including GSM/GPRS, 3G/CDMA and other technologies and is active in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon.

However the main focus for Oger Dubai will be construction and the further development of the operation and maintenance division. Fayed added," We are already at an advanced stage with a number of contract proposals and we make some major announcements about those, in the near future. With so much interest being shown in our company at Cityscape, it underscores our confidence to open up in Dubai and a number of imminent contracts wins fully justifies that decision".
