The hotel joined hands with the Public Transport Department of Dubai Municipality to launch the new Baniyas abra station.
The station was officially launched by Mr Abdul Aziz Malik, Director of the Public Transport Department of Dubai Municipality just recently. Also present at the launch ceremony were team members from the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers, led by its General Manager, Mr Thomas van Opstal.
The 5-star hotel is the only hotel currently overlooking the famous Dubai Creek and is located just 3 minutes' walk from the new Baniyas abra station. Taking advantage of this, the partnership was ideal for the hotel to promote a new facility to its guests. 'With the opening of this new station, it will be so much easier for our guests to come to us. This is an excellent mode of transportation given the heavy traffic Dubai experiences every day. The new station makes it so convenient for those who wants to cross to Deira from Bur Dubai, especially during lunch time and rush hour.' said Thomas van Opstal.
The abra is operational from 7am to midnight every day. The temporary Al Seef station is operational with immediate effect until the new station is completed by February 2006.
The Public Transport Department of Dubai Municipality has provided two floating pontoons at the new Baniyas station to enhance the safety measures for boarding and disembarking of abra users. At the launch ceremony, members of the media as well as officials from the Public Transport Department of Dubai Municipality and the hotel were seen taking a ride across the Creek to test out the abras.
