- PRESS RELEASE
The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the Middle East's first postgraduate research-based university, celebrated the achievements of its first year with a formal reception at its campus in Dubai's Knowledge Village.
"Since accepting our first students in September 2004, BUiD has achieved a reputation for the provision of high quality, relevant postgraduate education; this reception has given us the opportunity to show our gratitude to the many people and organizations who have helped accomplish this," said David Lock, BUiD's registrar and acting chief executive.
"In my view, BUiD is the most exciting development between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom for many years, paving the way for shared development and discovery," said HE Richard Makepeace.
The success of BUiD's specialized institutes of Informatics, Education, the Built Environment and Engineering is a product of the close relationship it enjoys with its UK university partners and the strong support of local partners.
"All of the subjects offered by BUiD are directly relevant to the region's economy, and the University is delivering on its mission to facilitate access to world-class education, training and research in the Middle East," added Lock.
BUiD has also received strong support from both commercial and public sector bodies which benefits the University at several levels including funding, scholarships, resources and advice.
All of BUiD's masters' programs have achieved accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Education; and future plans include masters' programs in Finance and Banking and PhDs in Project Management, Education and Informatics.
