Acer strengthens server offering with Altos G5350
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 26 - 2005 at 10:03
- PRESS RELEASE
Building on its position as one of the region's leading server vendors, Acer today announced the launch of its latest server platform, the Acer Altos G5350, the first server specifically designed for the small and medium business (SMB) market to host dual-core processor technology.
Andrew Lamb, business development manager servers and storage, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd, commented: "Acer's strategic relationship with AMD has resulted in the first dual-core platform for the SMB market, and with more than 50 percent of the Middle East business community comprised of SMBs, we are expecting massive growth in the market."
The new Acer Altos G5350 server provides outstanding value to workgroups by combining scalable performance and new availability features. Advanced capabilities make the server easy to manage, which can help control IT expenses.
Lamb continued: "The AMD Opteron processor, enabling simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, represents the landmark introduction of AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to run existing 32-bit applications with outstanding performance and offers customers a simplified migration path to 64-bit computing. As well as higher performance and increased scalability, the expandability and manageability of the platform has also been upgraded."
In addition to a clear 64 Bit migration path, the Acer Altos G5350 also offers unique industry features of dual-core support. System performance can be scaled in line with SMB business growth, by the addition of a second processor. Redundant power supplies and redundant hot-swap hard disk drives provide affordable performance and data protection. The Acer Altos G5350, as with all the Acer Altos family, is fully convertible from a tower to a rack mountable form factor.
"As with all Acer Altos servers, the G5350 feature Acer Easybuild, simplifying the installation and set-up, by providing an intuitive GUI based process and by providing all relevant tools to set up the server," concluded Lamb.
The new Altos G5350 comes with the latest, advanced software, Acer's Advanced Server Manager (ASM) v7.0, which includes Acer's web-based management architecture. ASM makes comprehensive systems management easy and compliments the high system availability features outlined above. These components help to further control IT expenses by making the Acer Altos Server simple and efficient to manage.
