DCCI ensures significant participation in Gitex 2005

Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) participates strongly under the umbrella of Dubai e-Government in Gitex 2005 which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, inaugurated the Exhibition on Monday, marking its 25th anniversary.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed visited the DCCI's pavilion in Gitex, accompanied by His Excellency Obeid Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of DCCI, and Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee, Director General of DCCI, and heads of a number of Dubai government and economic departments and a large number of information technology experts, and computer manufacturers and suppliers.
The DCCI is participating in the Exhibition through its outstanding pavilion which showcases the Dubai Chamber's integrated services provided to the local business community, businessmen and investors, and its continuous efforts to upgrade all its commercial services to make them easier to access.
Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee, Director General of DCCI, said: "We are glad to participate in this outstanding IT exhibition which is considered to be one of the largest specialized technical exhibitions in the Middle East. The exhibition provides a good opportunity to introduce our members, clients and visitors to the latest developments we have applied to our services and our current program to turn all our commercial services online, to enable our clients to carry out their transactions at the Chamber on the net saving much efforts and time."
He pointed out that the visitors of the DCCI's pavilion in the exhibition will be introduced to the Chamber's activities and how they can access its online services easily through a training session which the DCCI organizes.
"We are going to arrange a special training session at our pavilion targeting more than 800 companies working in Dubai to train them on how to access and benefit from our online services through the internet, especially issuing the certificates of origin," Al Mutaiwee added.
The DCCI's director general stressed that the Chamber is still working on increasing the number of companies that use the issue service of the certificates of origin through the internet. He said that 89 % of companies in Dubai have benefited from this service this year, compared to 63 % in 2004.
"The DCCI issues 91 % of the total number of certificates of origin electronically through the internet, about 1,200 certificates of origin per day. Our participation in Gitex 2005 will help us increase the number of companies using this service and ensure more effective interaction with Dubai e-Government," Al Mutaiwee said.
Al Mutaiwee said that Gitex 2005 is a significant economic event that attracts a large number of information technology manufacturing pioneers and experts from all over the world. The exhibition represents a chance to meet with representatives of different technical sectors in the GCC countries and to be introduced to the latest development in this field.
More than 120,000 people are expected to visit Gitex 2005 where they will be introduced to the latest in the information technology industry, where more than 1,163 exhibitors and 2,724 companies from 61 countries participate.
Gitex 2005 will offer its visitors a wide range of products, information services, computer sets, components and other related equipment, in addition to the latest in multimedia equipment, printers, scanners, alarm systems, communication means and others.
The rates of growth in the exhibition this year reflect the rapidly increasing performance of the African and Middle Eastern countries which have adopted the latest trends in information technology.
