- United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 26 - 2005 at 16:09
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) today announced its Microelectronics Training Academy (µTA), a specialized educational initiative with the mission to promote, encourage, facilitate and inspire the development and creation of a skilled microelectronics workforce in the UAE and the region.
"Dubai Silicon Oasis is not for the short term. We will create a new class of young business leaders that will help make Dubai a magnet for technologically skilled workers," said His Highness Shaikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of DSO. "We are fully committed to creating and developing a skilled technical workforce in Dubai."
The main objective of µTA is to provide specialized hands-on training courses covering various aspects of microelectronics and integrated circuit (IC) design, IC design automation, manufacturing and related technologies. Through support and cooperation with industry and academia experts, µTA will ensure industry-like exposure, build and maintain a bridge between those seeking to launch or enhance a career in microelectronics and the DSO partner companies.
"The curriculum of training courses and programs we have planned will provide attendees with the opportunity to gain a comprehensive grasp of microelectronic concepts, acquire a technical knowledge to begin, stay current or advance their career," said Dr. Eesa Bastaki, Director of Technology and Development at DSO. "There will be a high level of student-instructor interaction and hands-on lab instruction to ensure attendees receive the support and guidance essential to create an effective and lasting learning experience."
The µTA's introductory seminar, The Fundamentals of Semiconductor Technology: Wafer Processing and IC Fabrication and Packaging, will be held Thursday, November 17, 2005, from 9am to 3pm at the DSO Microelectronics Innovation Center.
Launched in October of 2002, DSO offers a solution to high cost semiconductor development through its business ready infrastructure. Encompassing regional talent, financial incentives and subsidies on state of the art EDA tools and technology, DSO will enable companies to quickly set up shop and accelerate time to market of their electronic products.
