  • PRESS RELEASE

Multiemedia's (ASX: MUL) satellite division, NewSat, today announced it has signed an agreement which will enable the Government-owned telecommunications carrier Telikom PNG, to supply satellite communication services to the country of Papua New Guinea.

The partnership will see NewSat collaborate with Telikom PNG to provide a range of co-branded services into Papua New Guinea including high speed internet, web browsing, data transfer, video streaming and multicasting.

Adrian Ballintine, CEO of Multiemedia, described NewSat's entry into Papua New Guinea as an important and strategic milestone for the company and an important step in the IT development of that region.

"We anticipate the relationship with Telikom PNG to grow into a substantial and long-term revenue opportunity for NewSat," Ballintine said. "Our ability to provide quality satellite communications to the remote regions of Papua New Guinea demonstrates our ability to partner with key governments and organisations in global markets. It distinguishes NewSat as a key player in this space," he added.

The introduction of satellite services is expected to provide a huge benefit to Papua New Guinea's local businesses and communities in particular the country's schools, universities and hospitals.

According to Ballintine the adoption of satellite technology by Telikom PNG is the ideal solution for the country. "Due to the great difficulty and costs of laying traditional cable copper fibre networks in such rugged terrain, satellite is the perfect answer for Papua New Guinea," Ballintine explained. "Compared to the installation of terrestrial connections, which can be a lengthy and complicated process, satellite broadband deployment is straightforward and can be installed in just days." Telikom PNG customers will be able to sign up for NewSat's services immediately.

Paul Seaton, General Manager - Middle East and Africa noted that this was another great example of the capabilities of the satellite communications and media port operator. NewSat is able to provide satellite coverage to 75% of the world's population, up from 60%, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

NewSat is one of the fastest growing satellite communications providers with the Middle East/Africa regions and it's operation based in Dubai is key to the company's growth. In addition to hosting and distributing internet services, NewSat is able to provide network solutions for a wide range of private, commercial and government users. Providing an unparalleled level of service, NewSat is expanding it's Middle East and African presence and expects further significant growth in coming months.
