Etisalat demonstrates remote wireless connectivity
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, September 29 - 2005 at 11:36
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates Telecommunications Corporation - Etisalat - is demonstrating a remote wireless connectivity package that is slated to be a boon for the connectivity needs of corporates.
Some of the key applications of this service are to link up card swiping machines at sales counters via GPRS instead of the usual telephone line. This would save the logistical need of having a dedicated telephone line, and also eliminate busy signals and delays. Banks have expressed interest to hook up their ATM network using GPRS, which would mean greater security for transactions, and less logistics to hook up each of the ATMs to a central server. This could even lead to breakthrough services like mobile ATMs, which could travel the city and visit the customer's location when he or she needs to withdraw money.
Utility companies in the UAE have begun the process of connecting to their remote locations via GPRS. This would alert the central control about situations arising at remote locations, and especially alert about alarms.
Prominent transport companies use the Fleet management possibilities of Corporate GPRS technology to keep track of their range of vehicles, whether for delivery or passenger transport. When the vehicles in the fleet have a small Smart Card on board, the central management system of the company is able to track the vehicle and even see where they are on a map. For instance, if a customer calls for a taxi, the central control is able to dispatch the nearest free taxi to the customer's location. This has streamlined business process for these companies considerably, and has enabled the turnaround time from customer contact to service provision to drop considerably.
Corporate GPRS assures a new era in corporate connectivity, and Etisalat ensures that all transactions and connections remain absolutely secure.
