The announcement was made at a joint press conference addressed by Mr. Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General, Operations, Emirates Post, and Mr. Khalid Al Jawhary, Director of Revenue Department, UAE Ministry of Finance & Industry, at Emirates Post headquarters in Dubai.

Also present at the press conference was Mr. Khames Abdullah, Head of Revenue Department, Ministry of Finance & Industry.

Under the agreement, all main post-offices will sell or re-charge eDirham cards. The re-charge service is meant for representatives who carry out transactions on behalf of government departments.

The eDirham sale and re-charge service is available at the following main post offices: Abu Dhabi Central, Dubai Central, Deira Main, Sharjah Central, Ajman Central, Umm Al Quwain Central, Ras Al Khaimah Central, Fujairah Central and Al Ain Central.

"eDirham has become an important mode of payment all over the country. It allows members of the public to pay for public services without the need to carry cash," said Mr. Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General, Zones, Emirates Post. "We would like to thank the Ministry of Finance & Industry for offering the sale of eDirham through the postal network."

"We are pleased to add another important service to our portfolio of community services," added Al Shaya. "It provides an added convenience to the members of the public as they don't have to go far to buy an eDirham card. We believe this represents the first step in our enhanced relationship with the Ministry of Finance & Industry."

"This agreement provides us with an opportunity to increase the sales points for eDirham," said Mr. Khalid Al Jawhary, Director of Revenue Department, UAE Ministry of Finance & Industry. "This enables us to take the eDirham to all corners of the country through the postal network. We are particularly happy to offer the eDirham recharge facility, which has been introduced to facilitate easy inter-departmental transactions."

"The introduction of eDirham has brought speed and efficiency into public transactions," said Mr. Al Jawhary. "It is a strategic tool for accelerating e-government. Today, eDirham has become a common mode of payment at most government departments. Demand for eDirham has been rising because it offers many benefits, such as safety, security and hi-tech features. It reduces the need for dealing in cash and helps government departments to electronically control all transactions."
