Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER) has signed with City of Arabia, a mega residential and commercial project in the heart of Dubailand, to supply 120,000 Refrigeration ton of district cooling over the next 25 years.

The agreement was signed by Ilyas Galadari, Chairman of the Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari Group, Mustafa Galadari, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, and Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of EMPOWER at a signing ceremony held at City of Arabia Corporate office.

As part of the contract, EMPOWER will provide district cooling services to various developments in the City of Arabia. These include the Mall of Arabia which will be the largest retail facility in the region and among the largest in the world; the Restless Planet, a dinosaur theme park attraction; Wadi Walk, a 11 km meandering waterway that features 1,600 apartments; and Elite Towers, consisting of 34 high-rise developments for both commercial and residential use.

The City of Arabia in Dubailand is one of the largest private sector projects in the Middle East, and will house over 35,000 residents when completed in 2008.

"In projects as large as City of Arabia, energy-efficiency plays a key role in enhancing economic profitability and ensuring a positive environmental impact," said Ilyas Galadari. He also added, "EMPOWER has the resources and capabilities to bring district cooling to the mega projects of Dubai, whatever their requirements."

"The City of Arabia project incorporates some unique concepts which are pioneering in nature and we are pleased to be providing this prestigious development with our exclusive district cooling services," said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of EMPOWER. We are proud to support Dubai's construction vision with our services," he added.

This is the latest of several mega projects that have signed up for EMPOWER's unique centralised district cooling service which is considerably more cost efficient than air-cooled chiller systems.
