The centre, located in the Mussafah area of Abu Dhabi, was inaugerated on October 10, 2005 by Mr. Mohammed A.J. Al Fahim, Al Fahim Group Honorary Chairman, and Mr. Nicholas Speeks, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Middle East.
Also attending were Saeed Al Fahim, Group Chairman, Aamer Al Fahim, Managing Director, Rashed Al Fahim, Director, Richard Siemicki, CEO of the Al Fahim Automotive Group, Monzer Al Rifai, General Manager Emirates Motor Company, plus other senior managers from EMC, DaimlerChrysler Overseas and DaimlerChrysler Middle East.
The new 13, 500sq. m. premises will employ nearly 100 staff and allow for enhanced workload capacity and faster throughput thanks to much improved parking and manoeuvreing facilities. The building also has a larger area for spare parts allowing for the stocking of an increased number of line items.
'The new commercial vehicles centre enables EMC to offer an improved customer service. With higher throughput and capacity we can increase the flow of work and lowering workshop waiting and downtime,' said Mr. Siemicki. 'Quicker turn rounds will give our customers the opportunity to increase the use of their Mercedes-Benz vehicles therefore improving revenue and profits.'
EMC has invested over AED 500,000 in new state-of-the-art workshop equipment that includes Bosch heavy/light vehicle brake testing machines, an enclosed steam cleaning machine with a ramp for underbody washing, a full ADNOC lubrication system with seven lube stations and a five tonne overhead crane running the full length of the workshop.
EMC plans a throughput of over 50 vehicles a day when the premises are at full capacity with the provision for a further increase if necessary.
The new workshop will be run by Service Manager Anthony Iceton, with Werner Schiessl as the Parts Department Manager.
'Middle East sales continue to show that Mercedes-Benz is the leading truck and van brand across the region and, with the transport market continuing to expand, it is pleasing to see that our general distributors are prepared to invest in new facilities ensuring that all the needs of increasingly demanding customers are met,' said Mr. Speeks.
