eCompany launches foreign language courses on LearnOnline eLearning portal
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 16 - 2005 at 12:18
- PRESS RELEASE
eCompany, Etisalat's one-stop e-powerhouse business unit that provides Internet services and ICT solutions today announced the launch of new foreign language courses on its eLearning portal, in partnership with Image Systems, a leading technology provider in the Gulf.
Thanks to the interactive activities, a learner can practice all the language skills: writing ,oral expression and comprehension. The voice recognition technology allows learners to evaluate their pronunciation and compare it with that of a native speaker. They can thus correct their pronunciation in real time. Without touching the keyboard or the mouse, they can use a microphone and headset to speak in a user-friendly manner with their computer. The computer thus becomes a precise and permanently available coach.
Through a feature called S.E.T.S (Spoken Error Tracking System), learners can adapt the voice recognition function to their level. During this activity, they receive a score to evaluate the quality of accent, pronunciation and intonation.
With the phoneme feature, learners can observe the movement of the lips to reproduce the pronunciation in real time. This in turn facilitates recall, and leads to better reproduction. The ability to measure and track progress through Learning Management Systems (LMS) is a key differentiator of LearnOnline and will benefit learners in monitoring their progress and the time spent.
According to Abdulla Hashim, Senior Manager, eCompany, "The potential of this new technology is immense and it will revolutionize foreign language learning. The introduction of these innovative courses will offer an excellent opportunity for learners in the UAE to learn or improve their language skills. The promise of flexibility allows learners to complete their language courses wherever and whenever they want with the technology adapting to the workload of each learner."
According to Mubarak AlKhater, Business Development Manager, Image Systems, : "Case studies indicate TMM is far more effective over the traditional method of learning foreign languages. It is very interactive, and learners practice their language skills more than they can in a conventional class room. Upon completion of the program, learners can get an indication of their level by taking the TMM Achievement Test, which is mapped to internationally recognized tests."
