Renowned producer and journalist, Hassan Ibrahim, joins Al Jazeera International

Al Jazeera International, the 24-hour English-language news and current affairs channel, headquartered in Doha, announced today that renowned producer and journalist, Hassan Ibrahim, has joined the channel.

A seasoned journalist with 29 years of experience, Hassan recently featured as Al Jazeera's Senior Producer in the major motion picture documentary 'Control Room', where he debated the merits of the Iraq war with Josh Rushing, the United States Marine Corps spokesman.

During his career Hassan has covered a wide range of conflicts in the Middle East and Africa as well as in Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia and Brazil, making him a well respected voice in the region. He covered the Iran-Iraq war as a young reporter, following the conflict from both the Iranian and the Iraqi fronts, a life changing experience. While reporting on the wars in his native Sudan he managed to make it twice to the Southern Sudan and Darfur. Hassan has also written extensively on the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the geopolitical changes and saw first hand the resilience of the people of West Beirut, Palestine and Lebanon.

Al Jazeera International will broadcast to English speakers worldwide from news broadcast centres strategically placed across the world in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London, and Washington D.C. Hassan will be based at the channel's headquarters in Doha and details of his specific role at the channel will be unveiled closer to launch.

Speaking on his appointment Hassan said, 'I am delighted to be part of this project to bring a global audience a fresh perspective on world news which covers all sides of the story from all parts of the world. I believe its certainly time for the first English language network based in the Middle East looking outwards.'
