Dubai Municipality conduct economic and financial anayltical studies

Arif Al Mehairi, Director of Statistics Centre at Dubai Municipality said that the civic body endeavours for the activation of the statistical data for the service of the decision makers and policy formulators of the emirate.

He said this while addressing a press conference on Wednesday at Dubai Municipality. A number of experts and statisticians were also present on the occasion.

Al Mehairi said that the Statistics Centre, with the co-operation of a group of experts and specialists in the field of economics and statistics and under the supervision of the Special Scientific Committee, has conducted ten economic and financial analytical studies on the private sector. The studies were based on the results of the Economic Survey on the Private Sector Establishments in the Emirate of Dubai.

He said that releasing such studies are considered to be a qualitative change in activating statistical work of the Emirate. "It is not just for satisfaction of being presented and for statistical analysis but also for transforming it into information through scientific research, studies and analysis to make it a comprehensive knowledge," said Al Mehairi.

He hoped that this studies would accomplish the objectives that were expected of it by reviewing the features in it such as the economic and financial status of the establishments in the private sector in the emirate of Dubai.

Al Mehairi added that the Statistics Centre has finished preparing a book that contains the analytical study for activating the results of the Economic Survey on the Private Sector Establishments in the Emirate of Dubai, which was conducted by the Centre.

"The work was done with the co-operation of academic and governmental bodies as well as economic and financial researchers. This study is being presented by the special committee formed for the general supervision of the studies," he said.

Al Mehairi said the book contains analytical studies that reflect the economic status of the Emirate of Dubai that will serve the decision makers and planning policy formulators. "This will help achieve growth and development in the private sector in the Emirate of Dubai. The studies have taken many important issues into consideration," he said.

Role of private sector in the development of the Emirate of Dubai: Dr. Saad Hafis

The study is characterized with the analysis of the structure of the private sector in the development of the Emirate of Dubai in the years 1995 and 2003. The study has taken up the role of private sector and its impact on the economic development of the Emirate of Dubai. The study could bring out the future vision underlining the importance of the role of the private sector in the development of the Emirate of Dubai.

Productive competency and the specific aspects of the success of private sector projects in the Emirate of Dubai: Prof. Dr. AbdulQadir Diab

The study has brought out the aspects of analysing productive competency of the private sector establishments in the Emirate of Dubai in a wide range of economic activities. The study also defined impact of the positive and negative aspects and variables in it. It ended with bringing out the results and recommendations on the decision makers and economic policy formulators related to directions and encouragement for private investments by participating in the efforts for development and accomplishing the economic and social objectives.

Economic analysis of trade activities (wholesale and retail) in the Emirate of Dubai: Dr. Hamid Hattal

The study has shed light on wholesale and retail trade and evaluated the economic performance of the Emirate of Dubai. It was aimed at formulating strategies and growth plans as well as recommendations that support growth in this sector. The trading sector was subjected to study by analysing the economic conditions of the trading sector in general during the period 1990-2003. It covers the Central Business District, which is considered to be the hub of trade activities in the centre of the city.


Extended industries in the Emirate of Dubai: specialties, horizons and growth: Dr. Fatima Saeed Al Shamsi

This study was aimed at shedding light on the features and development of the performance of the industrial sector in Dubai. It discusses the general objectives of the industry and the basic features of industrial policy in Dubai as well as the specific aspects of the industrial growth in Dubai. It has also dealt with the general features of the extended industry at the total and partial levels. Other aspects discussed by the study include the performance of the industrial sector as far as its role in defining the development path of the GDP, its capability in attracting private sector investments, transfer and acquisition of technology, strengthening research and development, in addition to its role in creating employment and support in increasing export.

Analysis of the standards and directions of growth in the construction sector in the Emirate of Dubai during 1995-2003: Dr. Zainal Abideen Al Wafai

The study has taken up the presentation and analysis of the construction industry and its role in the economic and social development of the Emirate of Dubai. It focused on the analysis of the standards and directions of the growth of construction industry in the emirate. It has also dwelt upon the understanding the problems faced by the construction sector and suggesting solutions for these problems and has also offered recommendations and suggestions for the development of this sector and also for enhancing its performance level.

Productive indicators of the industrial sector in the Emirate of Dubai: Mr. Yasir Mohammed Al Muqbal and Dr. Faisal Al Ameer.

The study has taken into its strides the task of defining the general features of the strategies of the industrial sector and the analysis of the competitive strength of this sector, its performance index, in addition to the sector-wise analysis of the data on industrial sector and applying it in the economic view point using Industrial Product Indicator (Cob Douglas). It has come to the conclusion that the technical transaction is the indicator to the industrial production as a whole. The branch industries sector that aims at the end of the tunnel to reach an indicator (decreasing or increasing or permanent revenue) through which it should be able to the planners, policy makers as well as the investors take appropriate decisions for fruitful investments in the industrial sector.

This study has taken in to consideration the features of the components of the GDP in Dubai: consumption, investment and foreign trade with a focus on the role of the private sector. It studied the features of the revenue and consumption of the residents of Dubai as per nationalities. It has also reviewed the role of the budget, its distribution on different product sectors and their revenues in different sectors. The study also discussed the import and export as well as re-export and their features.

Development of the structure of the labour market and the salaries in the private sector in Dubai: Dr. AbdulRazzaq Al Fares

The study aims at observing the most important developments occurred on the structure of the work force in the Emirate of Dubai in the past decade. It was done in the back drop of the results of the Economic Survey on the Private Sector Establishments in the Emirate of Dubai, which was conducted by the Centre in 1995 and 2003. It also studied the current salaries according to the economic sectors in comparison with the growth in production. The study also discussed the major changes that occurred in the structure of the work force, age-wise, nation-wise, profession-wise and economy-wise.

Changes in salaries: Investment and productivity in the Emirate of Dubai during 1995-2003: Dr. Ahmed Shaarawi

The study covered the changes in salaries of the work force in the private sector in the Emirate of Dubai as per nationalities, group of professions and economic activity. It discussed the changes occurred in investments in the Emirate of Dubai during 1995 and 2003. The annual budget structure and distribution of budgets by investor, the nationality of the investor as per the type of economic activity was subjected to study. The changes in the paid up capital as per the rules and nationality was also analyzed. Finally the changes that occurred on the average productivity of the worker as per the economic activity in the Emirate of Dubai between 1995 and 2003 were also subjected to study.

Analysis of the role of the banking, finance and insurance sectors in the development of the Emirate of Dubai: Dr. Ghazi Al Naqash

The study covered the role and the effective impact of the banking, finance and insurance sectors in the development of the Emirate of Dubai. The finance and economic indicators of this sector was analyzed in detail focusing on the report on the role of the financial institutions and the banking offices in the Emirate of Dubai. The role of Dubai Financial Centre in prompting the development movement all over the Emirate was defined by the study.
