The supply and installation contract awarded by Palm District Cooling (PDC) to Shinryo Corp of Japan, for a total of 100,000 ton district cooling system will serve more than 100 apartment buildings in the development. The Trane EarthWise CenTraVac chillers selected by PDC and Shinryo will cover the first phase of the project.

"We selected Trane because of their experience and track record for providing reliable, high performance, energy efficient district cooling solutions to important buildings in Dubai and around the world," said Keith Levers, director of Palm District Cooling. "These are all essential components in a region where the cost of running an air conditioning system and the energy it uses is significant."

"PDC set stringent cooling criteria for this prestigious residential development, requiring systems that meet the most demanding comfort and energy efficiency needs," said Kissel. "We're confident that our high efficiency EarthWise CenTraVac chillers used as part of a district cooling solution will meet these demands."

Trane's EarthWise CenTraVac chillers, the most energy efficient chillers available today, use Refrigerant -123, the most balanced and environmentally responsible refrigerant with very low global warming potential and extremely low ozone depletion impact. In fact, if all centrifugal chillers sold in one year operated at the same efficiency as Trane's CenTraVac chiller, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions would be the equivalent of planting nearly 1.4 million trees.

Trane has provided HVAC systems and solutions to customers in the Middle East, Africa and India (MAIR) region for nearly 50 years -- enhancing their indoor and outdoor environments through improved indoor air quality, dehumidification, moisture control, acoustics and energy efficiency performance. Recently, Trane was awarded multi-million dollar contracts with Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world, and Nakheel's Palm Jumeirah Island villas.
