Over 100 anaesthesiologists and intensivists from UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries attended the seminar to hear about the ground-breaking treatment.
Precedex (Dexmedetomidine HCI) is a unique new sedative agent that can be used on patients in the intensive care unit. It works as both a sedative and an analgesic, and does not cause respiratory depression. Precedex has been approved by the FDA.
Dr. Mohammed Seraj, Chairman of the Saudi Anaesthetic Association said, ' Precedex represents a significant step forward in the sedation field, and is sure to be widely adopted in hospitals across the region. It has a unique sedative quality, because patients can be clinically sedated, but still rousable when stimulated. This means they are more capable of communicating their needs.'
Prof. Jean Mantz, Professor of Anaesthesiology and Clinical Care at Bichet Hospital, France, added, 'Precedex's dual action makes it unique in the field. Another important feature is the fact that it doesn't have any adverse effects on the respiratory system. This means that there are fewer complications, and this can mean a shorter stay in the intensive care unit for many patients.'
