Economy and Development Group: "Economy expertise shall achieve our strategic vision"

The Economy and Development Group (EDG) continues its election campaign for the Board of Directors of the BCCI which is scheduled for November 16th, 2005 amongst stiff competition between the lists and the independents that was not hindered by calls for postponement.

Mr. Sameer Nass, member of the Economy and Development Group explained the objectives of the Election Platform that the Economy and Development Group is promising to put into action. He stated that
"The Economy and Development Group is going to focus on attracting investment in the local market, construction and other sectors of the economy with due importance of keeping Bahrain at the forefront with other developed countries."

The aim, according to Mr. Nass, is to make Bahrain the focal point of interest for the business people, the economy and development.

Judging from his vast experience in the field of construction and infrastructure, Mr. Nass further added "I am very optimistic that the Economy and Development Group shall be able to propose realistic projects to the officials in Bahrain, and shall continue to support the prosperous atmosphere Bahrain is enjoying today, as the Economy and Development Group has the experience and know how which will aid its decisions and choice of policies." He concluded by calling upon all the members of BCCI to support the election of the Economy and Development Group on the basis of their experience and election platform.

Mr. Sharif Ahmadi, with his well founded expertise as a successful businessman, adds to the optimism and strategic vision of the Economy and Development Group. He believes that developing the economy and diversification of economic basis shall benefit the business community as well as the consumer, and shall attract considerable investments which would inevitably add to an improvement in the national as well as individual incomes. If this occurs, said Mr. Ahmadi, the turnover of business transactions shall increase the benefits of all concerned and shall augment profits. Mr. Ahmadi points out to the success of the financial and banking sector in Bahrain and says, "Let us learn from the positive effects of this sector in the seventies. Bahrain has become a distinguished financial center and has compensated the economy for the decline of oil revenues. We can repeat the same experience with other sectors of the economy. We in the Economy and Development Group are focusing on the economy and development, and in particular, investment and industrialization, which we are confident, shall benefit all parties, in spite of the natural resources. We can learn from the Japanese experience, as Japan was never an owner of huge natural resources. However it is now one of the industrial giants." Concluded Mr. Ahmadi.

In turn, well known businessman and industrialist, Mr. Adel Al A'ali showed a similar optimistic attitude towards the future of Bahrain and the economy by saying "Experience has taught me that positive ideas can become a reality if accompanied by perseverance and vision. Let us look at the construction sector in Bahrain. In the past building materials was generated from local sources in land and the sea, but now it depends on materials that comply with the international standards. This change has occurred due to the realization of alternatives and the insistence on quality and value. Progress does not come by easily, but it requires hard work and vision. We in the Economy and Development Group shall provide such vision and shall depend on our experience in leading the BCCI into new and prosperous heights with the support of the members of the BCCI."

Another prominent member of the Economy and Development Group, Mr. Adel Al Maskati, well known in the field of light industry expressed his confidence that Bahrain can gracefully move from its current position in light industry to a more sophisticated industrial level, depending on the private sector's effort. The success that Bahrain has already achieved in the light industry could be emulated at other industrial levels depending on the changes that have taken place in the international market. "Nowadays, globalization has made international cooperation and alliances possible, and we in Bahrain can build on this trend by moving ahead on the industrial front. The international situation provides us with excellent opportunities to forge industrial alliance and utilize the already available technology and know how for the benefits of Bahrain, the private sector and the consumers", he said. "We can all be winners if we lead the private sector to new horizons. We hope our colleagues in the BCCI will vote for us in the Economy and Development Group to make this vision a reality. It all depends on them, and the choice is theirs" stressed Mr. Adel Al Maskati.
