  • Monday, October 31 - 2005 at 10:20

The coastal waters of western UAE and Qatar are home to a rich and diverse coral fauna and well-developed reefs.

These ecosystems of the Arabian Gulf, the planet's northernmost limit for tropical corals, are exceptional in their ability to survive stresses such as extreme temperature fluctuations. But can they survive coastal development, pollution, sedimentation and the greatest threat of all - global warming?

EWS-WWF, with partners Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, Supreme Council for the Environment and Natural Reserves (Doha) and Sponsor Dolphin Energy Ltd., would like to help conserve the Gulf's coral reef systems. Those interested in knowing how this is being attempted, can read about it in the EWS-WWF newsletter that is just out - Dar al Khair, Volume 9, Summer Edition, 2005. This can be downloaded from the Arabian Environment site.

DHL - UAE is the corporate profile for the summer issue of Dar al Khair. There are also lots of interesting office news snippets ranging from our Earth Day event and Business Forum; to the Endangered Animal Fund of Dubai English Speaking School children and the Arabian Quest Race for conservation.

Conservation project updates get pride of place. These cover many of the areas we work in, locally and around the world - species, education, marine, freshwater and toxics.
