RJ's service to Milan comes 40 years after it launched its service to Rome, the first European destination RJ operated. The airline started conducting direct flights to Rome since 1965, the second year after its establishment.

The decision to start the new destination to Italy came in order to facilitate travel and trade between Amman and Milan and to serve businessmen's travel between the two cities, in addition to serving passengers transiting via Amman.

Royal Jordanian has four direct weekly flights to Rome. The airline operated a direct service from Amman to Milan from 1996 to 1998. It constantly studies the market in order to offer the best and most convenient services.

Milan, the second largest city in Italy, is 475 km far from Rome. The flight between Amman and Milan lasts 4h 25 min. It is considered an important economic and industrial city in the heart of Europe.

Adding Milan to the RJ route network makes it the airline's 51st station. RJ's modern fleet comprises 24 aircraft operating more than 230 weekly flights.
