In October 2001 there were 476,000 Yahoo! users from the UAE and in just four years this number has increased by more than three times to cross 1.5 million. The demographics show that 28% of these users are females - 420,000. But this gender bias is declining as an increasing number of females are using the net and among the under 21 age group almost 38% of the users from the UAE are females.
Another interesting finding of the latest demographics shows that the internet is not just for the teeny boppers! 38% of Yahoo! users in the UAE are over 30 years old.
While Yahoo! Mail accounts for the heaviest traffic, Dr. Irfan Ahmad, Director of Yahoo! Middle East Ad Sales Rep Office, said, "Advertisers can reach the youth audience on Yahoo! Music, Chat and Games, while more than half a million people from the UAE who are over 30 years old can be found on Yahoo! News and Finance as well as Yahoo! Mail. The internet is not a fringe medium any more. Advertisers and agencies have begun to incorporate online advertising into their media mix and those agencies which have yet to accept this medium will be seriously looking at it in 2006."
"This year online advertising in the Middle East has already increased by more than 30% and we have seven weeks left of the year. An increasing number of advertisers are targeting Yahoo!'s female audience and advertising campaigns on Yahoo! by Faces (Wajooh) Beauty Store, JLo perfume and Braun's Silk Epil feminine razor have averaged quite high click thru rates. Over 80 advertisers have used Yahoo! this year and we are quite happy with the trend,"
said Dr. Ahmad.
Yahoo! is the leading internet portal worldwide as well as in the Middle East. With more than 13 million users from the Middle East who view more than 2 billion pages of Yahoo! every month, no other website comes close to Yahoo!'s massive online audience in the region.
