Moreover, UAE University has signed on as a partner in the development and commissioning of the portal.

This portal would serve as an authoritative source for datasets used by UNEP and its partners in the GEO process and other integrated assessments. It would be an innovative tool providing access to the best available data sets compiled over the last 30 years covering different parameters relating to environmental monitoring and reporting.

The development of this portal will also involve a user needs analysis, implementation plan, prototype of the portal, data collection and updating as well as technical review and commissioning of the final working portal. The portal is to be launched in December 2005.
