OKI Printing Solutions' LED printer shipments reach six million

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, November 08 - 2005 at 11:20
  • PRESS RELEASE

OKI Printing Solutions has announced that the global sales for its digital LED color and mono printers have reached 6 million since the company's first global shipment in 1981.

The latest IDC figures reflect this success, with strong growth recorded in a number of countries for the sale of color printers and Multifunction Products (MFPs) in Q2 of 2005.

Mikihiko Maeno, President and CEO of Oki Data Corp attributed the success to OKI Printing Solutions' unique LED technology: "We have continued to invest in the development of our LED technology since we developed the world's first LED printer in 1981. There's no doubt that LED printers offer superior results over laser printers, for companies that require printers with a small footprint, but exceptional quality and speed, and we're confident that this technology has played a significant role in helping us achieve steady growth."

"In the last 12 months we have shipped more than 200,000 LED color printers worldwide, and we'd like to maintain this momentum and see this figure surge to 700,000 units of LED printers and MFPs for the fiscal year ending March 2006 - a 30 per cent increase on last fiscal year's figures," he continued.

In Spain, the company continues to improve on its already dominant position selling 67 per cent more units than the previous year and also growing its market share to 38.6 per cent. Moreover, in the Ukraine, OKI Printing Solutions took the number one position from HP with a market share of 55 per cent.

In the Middle East OKI has established an office in Dubai to spearhead its moves in the colour market and bring stronger focus and support into the channel. "The results in KSA, for example where OKI now has 7.5% market share from zero last year is evidence of OKI working more closely with the channel to bring colour and colour MFP products to market. In Qatar, OKI has seen considerable volume sales of high-end A3 colour products into government, oil and gas and publishing sectors that appreciate the speed and quality of OKI printers," said John Ross, general manager Middle East, OKI Printing Solutions.

"As with other major markets across the world, the dynamics of the Middle East printing market is changing. Traditionally, the workgroup printer an organisation would have on its network would be a laser printer with a few inkjet printers coping with the occasional demand for colour printing. Over the last year, however, we have seen a growing number of companies across the region move their printing investments from inkjet and laser printers to LED digital technology that can better produce their colour business documents in-house, quickly and cost-effectively,"
