Emirates Post signs Dhs. 14 million contract to install more advanced machines for faster mail sorting

The machines will be installed at a new sorting building that will be constructed in Ramool.

A Dh. 14 million contract was signed between Emirates Post and NEC Corporation for the supply and installation of two sorting machines. The deal was signed by Mr. Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, and Mr. Makoto Imai, Associate Senior Vice President & Executive General Manager, NEC Corporation, at the Emirates Post headquarters in Dubai today.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr. Al Daboos said:

"This agreement reflects our commitment to meet the future requirements of the country. As the mail volumes have been increasing tremendously we have decided to install machines with cutting edge technology that will dramatically increase the speed and efficiency of our sorting operations. This matches our strategy of expanding our network of post offices and P.O. Boxes and raising the bar on customer satisfaction."

Mr. Makoto Imai commented: "We are delighted to establish a business relationship with Emirates Post, and we are confident our advanced systems will meet the requirements of the UAE. We have excellent track record in this field and we have supplied mail sorting equipment to leading postal organizations in Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Korea, France, Austria, Malaysia, Belgium, Greece and Japan."

Explaining the salient features of the new machines, Mr. Khalid Shahdoor, Assistant Director General, Information Affairs, Emirates Post, and head of the project, said: "We conducted an extensive study into different sorting machinery from leading suppliers like Toshiba, NEC, Pitney Bowes and Siemens through field visits, in order to ensure that the equipment met the specific needs of Emirates Post.

"The key factors that weighed in favour of NEC were a higher processing capacity which is ten times the current machines, ability to automate registered mail processing, automated redirection of mail, capacity to handle large-size envelops and heavier mail, quicker reading of addresses and categorisation of mail as per P.O. Box units. "

The signing ceremony was also attended by Mr. Hozumi Tonaka, Senior Manager and Mr. Hideyuki Tanabe, Manager-Overseas Sales Department, , NEC Corporation, Japan. Also present were Emirates Post officials Abdullah Juma Kalandar, Director Exchange Centres, Khawla Al Mansoori, head of IT Department, Essam Al Sagher, head of Development Section and Eng. Fadel Alami, sorting machine engineer.

Emirates Post's mail volumes have registered dramatic increase in recent years. On January 24, 2005, Emirates Post broke an all-time record in incoming domestic and international mail by handling 1,850,911 pieces of mail on a single day, against the daily year-round average of around 500,000 pieces.
