Signing the agreement for the college, Clive Reed, Emirates' Vice President Training & Development, said: "Emirates, as well as other airlines in the region, are expanding rapidly which brings with it a requirement for huge numbers of staff.
"We are delighted to offer this diploma course to those with practical experience in the field of aviation throughout the UAE and Gulf region, in addition to our staff in Emirates and Dnata, the sole ground-handler at Dubai International Airport. The internationally-recognised qualification will give them greater career opportunities both here and abroad."
The Diploma in Aviation Ground Handling offers industry-focused, integrated theory in addition to practical knowledge of airport ground-handling operations' management.
Dr Abdulla Al Hashimi, Emirates' Senior Vice President Group Security, which runs the Transguard Education Academy, said: "Transguard has a long and fruitful relationship with Edith Cowan University and I am very pleased that we can facilitate this highly-regarded diploma course between the university and Emirates."
Transguard Education Academy recently formalised the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which it signed in 2001 with ECU in which the academy facilitates accredited training programmes in aviation security management.
The programmes entail training in conflict management and crisis resolution such as hijacking situations and includes the comprehensive study of fraud and international aviation law.
