Technology security is one of the aviation industry's most acute issues; malware activity has surged in recent months and experts are warning that a new batch of sophisticated malware is about to be unleashed. This is of particular concern to companies involved in aviation transport, where operations need to run smoothly to avoid disruption to passengers and cargo.
Mr. Ziad Al-Haremi, Actg. Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air commented: "Oman's geographical location has led to Muscat becoming the eastern trading and aviation hub of the Arabian Gulf. Air traffic in the region is increasing day-by-day, and this factor, added to rising fuel costs, means that demands on all sides of the aviation business are at an all time high. On the airport handling side, real-time access to accurate information is crucial - so keeping this information secure and readily available is key."
"It is imperative that airport handling companies adopt the most comprehensive, advanced and sophisticated network protection available on the market, as any system downtime can seriously upset the smooth transit of passengers and cargo - causing major disruptions," continued Al-Haremi.
Implemented through enterprise solution reseller Khimji Ramdas Computer and Communication Systems, among the fully integrated security options which Oman Air has chosen is Trend Micro's NeatSuite, designed to protect every access point in the enterprise network with comprehensive virus protection for gateway, mail and file servers, and desktops.
Oman Air has also incorporated a Trend Micro Spam Prevention Solution, designed to protect the enterprise from spam at the gateway. The high-performance software includes technology that offers flexibility options and "future-proof" protection against the ever changing tactics of spammers.
Justin Doo, managing director, Trend Micro Middle East and Africa, commented:
"Companies involved in the aviation business are an obvious target for virus authors and hackers; the rising global security threat makes the risk even more serious. The measures which Oman Air has taken are an indication of the company's high standards and professional service - a factor borne out by the surge in demand for Oman Air services."
Finally, Oman Air has chosen Trend Micro's award-winning Interscan Web Security, which provides the first line of defence against multiple Web-based threats - blocking attacks at the gateway. It guards against viruses, spyware, grayware, phishing, and offers optional security modules to combat malicious mobile code and manage employee internet use.
Oman Air has seen a significant increase in cargo and passenger traffic in recent years. Oman Air now provides airport handling services for Indian Airlines, Air India, British Airways, KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Emirates, Gulf Air, Swiss Air, Oman Air and many others operating out of Seeb International airport.
