The meeting, held every three years, attracted delegations of more than 30 ISSA member organizations in Asia and the Pacific, which discussed several topics including the best practices to improve social security coverage, and the importance of health insurance for employees. It was a unique forum for decision makers and experts from Asia and the Pacific, to exchange research findings and best practises in the field of social security.

The number of panels that were held on the sidelines of the meeting included white papers presented from ISSA, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and World Health Organisation (WHO). They covered topics ranging from the new approaches to extending social security coverage and current challenges in delivering social security health insurance, to developments in public old-age benefit schemes. Furthermore, participants also discussed the importance of social security information database and communication technology tools in improving the performance of social security entities.

Al Baqer noted that
"the meeting highlighted several key issues such as the absence of social security and health insurance in many countries. In some developing countries, less than 20% of the population is adequately covered. As a result of increasing numbers of illegal workforce in some of the ISSA member countries which poses serious challenges to the social security systems".
