3rd Banking and Financial Services Conference for UAE nationals

Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Education, and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, the Financial Services Advisory Committee of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai in association with Dubai International Financial Center, are organizing their third conference 'Growing Our Future, New Trends - Exciting Opportunities' on Tuesday, 22nd November 2005 at Dubai Men's College.

The purpose of this conference is to highlight the importance of the financial services industry and to increase student awareness of the many new opportunities in this sector due to the new initiatives such as Dubai International Financial Centre. This conference will help broaden the understanding of this sector, address areas of concern that students have of this sector, and give employers the opportunity to hear student's career-related aspirations and concerns. More than 1000 students are expected to attend the conference from across the HCT and individuals from the financial services industry such as banks, insurance companies, and other financial services organizations like Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Program advisory committees are industry partners working with the HCT in aligning and developing relevant curriculum, promoting career opportunities for graduates, developing learning projects, providing work placement and summer employment opportunities and sponsoring college initiatives such as international study tours to further enhance learning.

Financial Services and Banking program started in 1991, providing UAE National students the opportunity to graduate with a Baccalaureate of Applied Science Degree accredited by the Association of Collegiate and Business Programs in the USA. The HCT has an enrollment in excess of 16,000 this academic year and conduct programs in business, technology, education, engineering, health and communication for UAE Nationals. The banking sector has been a major employer of nationals and the financial services sector that is booming is expected to attract talented nationals both men and women. Graduates of the Higher Colleges of Technology are employed in both government and private sectors. This includes local and international Banks, Dubai Financial Market, Dubai International Financial Centre, Insurance companies, Finance and investment intermediaries, accounting and finance departments of Etisalat, DEWA, Economic Department to name a few.

The conference will host numerous workshops from careers in trading of stocks to re-financing and mortgages conducted by industry specialists. These workshops would provide young nationals information on the industry sector, skills required and career opportunities.
