  • PRESS RELEASE

Registration begins for DSF2006 street kiosks and open spaces on Al Riqqa and Al Seef Streets which are popular festival venues

The Dubai Shopping Festival 2006 has started accepting applications from businesses to display and sell their wares on streets like Al Riqqa and Al Seef, which would in less than a month and a half's time erupt into an extravaganza of fun and pageant.

Hundreds of visitors are drawn to these streets every DSF and this time wouldn't be any different, giving businesses a fabulous opportunity to cash in when the sun shines. The DSF has a fantastic bouquet of extravagant cultural performances and live entertainment lined up for DSF 2006, breathtaking events that will keep pulling in the crowds to these open venues, day after day, for the entire DSF month running from January 4 to February 4, 2006.

As observed over the years, these kiosks are major attractions for visitors and shoppers who love to buy handicrafts, souvenirs, gifts and food stuff including snacks and soft drinks from the traditional marketplace-like stalls offering a wide choice of products in a very informal festival style set-up. The large turnout of buyers help retailers do brisk business during the evening operating hours throughout the course of the festival.

In the last DSF, a record 75 kiosks and spaces were rented out. This DSF 2006 being the 11th successful year of the festival, the figures are expected to be higher as the kiosks provide added charm to the streets bustling with entertaining activities. So, it's not only the visitors who would look out for a good time but also the traders who can expect their cash registers to be ringing non-stop.

For businesses this is the right time to book their spots on these streets. The DSF Office in the Department of Economic Development headquarters in Deira is where to head to for, to collect the application form and thereafter submit it with a plan or layout attached. It is also the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that the terms and conditions pertaining to the health and safety rules are strictly adhered to. Proposals detailing the type of participation should be submitted before Wednesday, December 14, 2005.

Priority will be given to participating outlets like shops and restaurants that are located on the main streets. Outlets that want to rent space should submit a design for the kiosk to be put up in that space, along with the application. The last word on the kiosk design rests on the DSF Office which has a committee in place to study all applications before giving approval

Among other conditions, participants must adhere to the restrictions on the display timings - 4pm to 12 midnight, as specified by the DSF Office. Participants would also be required to follow all safety and security regulations, adhere to all health guidelines and ensure the hygiene of their staff at the kiosk. Participants are required to present a health certificate issued by Dubai Municipality's Food Control Section.

The Dubai Shopping Festival 2006 runs between January 4 and February 4, 2006.
