The Chedi Muscat, a great escape resort
The fastest growing tourism market in the Gulf is for hotels that offer local expatriates a true escape from their busy lives. Barely 18 months old The Chedi Muscat is a unique haven of minimalist tranquility, though not for lovers of Arabian glitz.

Many five-star hotels in the Gulf strive to offer something individual, but few fall so easily into a class of their own as The Chedi Muscat. There is nothing else quite like this hotel in the region.
It is minimalist in design, with an architecture that heralds from the Asian roots of the hotel chain but with a feel that is also quite German Bauhaus in concept. To many guests this clean and uncluttered approach to design is a source of relaxation in itself.
At The Chedi the whole architecture is finely balanced with a lay-out carefully organized to take full advantage of the movement of the sun with reflecting pools strategically placed, and a sense of order prevailing through-out the whole. You either like or hate this kind of modern architecture.
Minimalist statement
Many local Omanis find it not to their taste, and Oman is perhaps the most refined country as far as architecture is concerned in the region. But The Chedi is a pure statement of minimalism, and clearly many guests, admittedly mainly European, seem to love it.
There are 151 rooms, deluxe rooms and private villas within the extensive gardens, and the hotel is conveniently located around 15 minutes from the airport, although the downside is that the noise of aircraft landing from time-to-time can be intrusive. Not surprisingly the minimalism of the hotel's architecture is carried over into the room interiors which are art works in themselves.
More popular with local Oman residents are The Chedi's restaurants. Another unusual feature is the four open kitchens, so that guests in the main dining area can watch their food being prepared with the chefs as a sort of ongoing cabaret. Each kitchen is dedicated to a different kind of food - Asian, Indian, Mediterranean and Arabic - and the standard of cuisine is very high.
A place to unwind
Two infinity swimming pools - one for adults-only - are also complemented by bar areas, and the whole focus of The Chedi is on relaxation and chilling out. The hotel does not encourage activity among its guests, this in not the place for it, although two flood-lit tennis court and a gym are provided for those who can't slowdown.
More in keeping with the style of this minimalist haven is the extensive spa with the full range of treatments for instant rejuvenation and well being. The hotel also has an extensive library of books to keep vacationers supplied with reading material to enjoy while concealed in the many hiding places of the garden.
If your budget will stretch to a $760 per night suite then you get a spacious private villa with a bath-tub for two and a complimentary bar, as well as your own terrace. For those serious about unwinding this is the best option, and you have a world of your own to enjoy for your stay.
