The UAE's energy sector performed well in this week's Excellence In Energy Awards - the fifth in the annual series - with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Petrofac up amongst the winners.

ADNOC took the award for the 'Best Company In Health and Safety' with Petrofac, which operates an international centre in Sharjah, walking away with the 'Best Company In Industry Services' honour.

"The award to ADNOC recognises its behaviour-based safety initiatives and commitment to keeping workplaces accident free, epitomised by rig ND-17," said Eileen Michael, Publisher, Reflex Publishing ME FZE, which organises the awards through its Pipeline Magazine title for the Middle East oil and gas industry.

"The rig has been operated by the ADNOC Group's National Drilling Company on the Bu Hasa field for 10 years without a single loss time incident - an international safety record."

The Petrofac honour is in recognition of the company's raising of its capability to serve the complete lifecycle for upstream, midstream and downstream facilities and infrastructure.

"Petrofac recently successfully went public with an order book this year of US $2.5 billion," said Michael. "The Middle East accounts for 40 per cent of the orders."

The Excellence In Energy Awards 2005 were presented at a glittering ceremony on the lawns at Doha Golf Club and were under the patronage of Qatar's Oil Minister, H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah.

Seen as the "Oscars" of the Middle East energy industry, the awards followed record polling in a reader's choice scheme designed to recognise companies that made a significant difference to the dynamic regional oil and gas industry.
