The application of modified asphalt paving solutions from the stable of Shell Bitumen, the leading manufacturer of bitumen products, to improve the durability of the UAE's roads formed the main topic of discussion at the seminar on road pavement solutions and technology, 'Modified Asphalt Paving Solutions for the UAE', held recently at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai.
"This seminar aimed at illustrating the many benefits of using Cariphalte Fuelsafe, a polymer modified bitumen designed to be used in the most demanding applications. Cariphalte Fuelsafe has 20 times more resistance to fuel spillages, and minimizes the risk of deterioration, unexpected repair works and all its associated costs. This will significantly benefit owners and operators of sites surfaced with Cariphalte Fuelsafe, as its qualities, combined with Shell's superior know-how, allow them to plan maintenance reliably and build it into their budgets," said Abdi Kamalati, Business Manager Middle East, Shell Bitumen.
"Today, the road network has evolved from being a mere facilitator of transport to a vital part of the infrastructure for economic development, not to mention civilian safety and national security. Against this backdrop, proper upkeep of the roads and preventing its premature deterioration has assumed utmost importance. While the roads in the UAE generally maintain high standards, we must ensure that the country remains on the cutting edge of technology and adopts world-class pavement solutions such as Cariphalte Fuelsafe to constantly improve the quality of its road network," Kamalati added.
Key speakers from First Security Group highlighted the importance of implementing world-class pavement solutions in the UAE, while international speakers from Shell and Halcrow shed light on polymer modified bitumen and the application of Shell Cariphalte-based modern asphalt technology to improve the performance and durability of the UAE's road network infrastructure.
The seminar primarily focused on Shell's highly advanced Cariphalte Fuelsafe, a high-performance bitumen that facilitates increased fuel resistance of asphalt mixtures. Designed for the most rigorous pavement conditions and longer pavement life, Cariphalte Fuelsafe is a cost-effective alternative to conventional bitumen for locations that are prone to fuels damage.
In addition to Cariphalte, Shell Bitumen manufactures and develops a range of bitumen products, including fuel resistant asphalt, warm mix asphalt, coloured pavements, Tixophalte and Multiphalte.
