As part of its endeavors to promote and market Dubai aggressively in overseas markets and strengthen its position in niche markets, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) successfully mounted a major presence at the 2005 edition of the European Incentive Business and Travel Meetings (EIBTM) which concluded in Barcelona, Spain, today.

This was Dubai's participation for the 16th consecutive year in the world's leading tourism and travel show.

Measuring 325.25 square metres, the impressive Dubai Stand was shared by 45 co-participants, including the Dubai Convention Bureau, Dubai International Airport, Department of Civil Aviation-Dubai Duty Free and Dubai International Convention Centre. The co-participants included Dubai-based hotels and hotel apartments, tour operators, travel companies and golf clubs.

The DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim, said:
"Europe has been a strong and growing market for Dubai for a long time. Our participation in the EIBTM-2005 is part of the continuing efforts to broaden the appeal of Dubai among the tourists and corporate communities around the world. Our hard work in EIBTM-2005 is going to yield good results for Dubai's booming tourism industry."

Out of the total 5.42 million guests hosted by Dubai's 372 hotel and hotel apartments in 2004, over 1.7 million guests originated from Europe, accounting for 32 per cent of the total hotel guests of Dubai.

In the first half of 2005, the European guests with Dubai hotel establishments numbered 1,011,233, an increase of 32% compared with the corresponding period last year. Similarly, there has been an 18% increase in Dubai hotel guests from Spain during this period.

Mr. Buamaim said the department, in cooperation and coordination with the public and private sector organizations, has successfully participated in 34 overseas exhibitions in addition to hosting 12 road shows in different parts of the world to increase Dubai's popularity.

This month, the department is participating in the UAE Exhibition in India and Dubai-Osaka Forum in Japan to promote Dubai further in these important source markets for Dubai's tourism industry.
