In Jordan, Acer has established itself as the market leader for the government sector, providing its desktop PCs and notebooks to the Department of Statistics, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, as well as the Amman Arab University and Philadelphia University.
As a company that remains committed to supporting the development of IT in Jordan, Acer recently made further announcements regarding government initiatives at the Middle East Technology Show (METS) 2005, which took place in Amman earlier this month.
Held under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, this year's METS was one of the largest yet with the number of exhibitors up 15 percent and attendance in excess of 30,000 visitors.
"His Majesty King Abdullah II has demonstrated time and time again his commitment to make Jordan an IT leader in the region,"
said Philip Ashkar, sales and marketing director, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd. "Acer strongly supports these initiatives, and looks forward to working even more closely with the Jordanian government to extend the use of world-class technology in the region."
Acer's presence at METS was pivotal. As well as showcasing the company's latest IT, business and home electronics portfolio, Acer sponsored the gala dinner, which was attended by some of Jordan's leading government ministers as well as many prominent figures from Jordan's business community.
Visitors to Acer's METS stand were able to see at first hand the company's innovative portfolio of business and consumer products which have led to the astounding success that Acer has enjoyed in the Middle East over the last twelve months. Acer is now the region's number one laptop vendor, third highest desktop PC vendor, and is making impressive gains in the visual display market - LCD monitors, Gaming-Line monitors, LCD TVs and projectors.
As well as Acer's impressive range of PDAs, 8 Megapixel digital cameras, peripherals, and e-business solutions for business, government, education, and home users, Acer showcased the company's new Altos G5350 server. Aimed at small and midsize enterprises (SMEs), the AMD 64-bit, dual-core platform server allows high processing power and expandability at a lower cost.
"Acer will continue to be engaged in supporting Jordan's business community. However, we also intend to focus on developing the consumer side of our operations. We have a diverse range of products that is ideally suited to individuals or small businesses in Jordan, and we will continue to launch exciting campaigns around them in the coming months," concluded Ashkar.
Organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT), one of the prime objectives for METS is to support His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to make Jordan a hub for IT in the region.
