GCAA appoints ex-Airbus senior official in top advisory position

The General Civil Aviation Authority has appointed Wolfgang Didszuhn, former Vice President Product Integrity of Airbus, as Advisor, International affairs. Top UAE aviation officials said Mr. Didszuhn, a German born aviation engineer, will assist the GCAA to become a world-class aviation authority.

Mr. Didszuhn was responsible for Type- and individual certifications of all Airbus aircraft, implementation of safety policies, quality in Engineering and Regulations. He has 40 years of experience in aviation and was involved in Airbus since the beginning of the company

The Director General of GCAA, H.E. Mohammed Ghanim Al Ghaith said that he is pleased that Wolfgang D. has joined the organisation and that he will assist the GCAA to become a world-class Aviation Authority, capable of ensuring a high level of aviation safety in the region.

Wolfgang will assist the Director Flight Safety and Security to expand the organisation to face the dramatic increase in aviation activities in the region. He will also establish close links with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for cooperation and implementation of the European safety regulations.

"I am very pleased to be a member of the GCAA team and to live in Dubai, one of the most fascinating and dynamic parts in the world," said Mr. Didszuhn.

"I strongly believe that legislators, manufacturers and operators must work closely together to maintain and improve aviation safety," he added.

Mr. Didszuhn will use his experience and connections with major international organisations like International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), European Commission, Federal Aviation Administration of US (FAA) and the authorities of other countries to help to achieve the objectives of the GCAA.

Mr. Didszuhn is also the President of the European Academy for Aviation Safety and a member of the EASA Appeal Board.
