Al Jazeera International reveals more on-screen talent

Al Jazeera International, the 24-hour English-language news and current affairs channel, headquartered in Doha, announced today their Doha news anchor Elizabeth Filippouli.

Elizabeth Filippouli joins the channel from the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) in Greece where she worked for fourteen years as a news producer/anchor and feature shows presenter.

Filippouli will be a news anchor at the channel's headquarters in Doha, one of Al Jazeera International's four regional broadcast centres strategically placed across the world in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.

She specialises in international issues and political interviews and has interviewed a number of high level personalities from around the world including Ted Turner, James Rubin, Dr Deepak Chopra, Mohamed El Baradei, Chris Cramer, Al Gore, Susan Sarandon, Lord George Robertson, Christianne Amanpour, Peter Arnett and Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed.

In addition to thousands of daily news bulletins Filippouli has produced and presented a significant number of live current affairs programs for ERT including the award winning feature show "The Journey of the Olympic Flame" on the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

In August 2005, she was appointed by ERT to produce and host the high profile EUROVISION SONG CONTEST shows, when Athens hosts the contest in May 2006. In October 2005 during her live coverage of the 50 year Eurovision anniversary show "Congratulations" from Copenhagen, ERT's ratings reached up to 44%.

In January 2005, Filippouli was among the organisers and presenters of ERT's award winning Tsunami Relief Campaign, which raised around 20 million EUROS for the victims of the disaster.

Filippouli has also been a regular contributor to CNNI's 'World Report' programme on Greek affairs and has provided live reports on breaking news in Greece such as the Athens earthquake in 1999 and the 2004 bus hijacking. In May 2003 her special report for CNN on "Gypsies in Athens" was a nominee for CNN's annual award for Best Reports.

She started her career fifteen years ago working as a journalist for some of the biggest newspapers and magazines in Greece for whom she has been a regular freelance columnist (EPSILON /KYRIAKATIKI ELEFTHEROTYPIA, AXIA weekly, KRAMA). She also has radio experience as a freelance journalist for the ATHENS 9,84 radio, focusing on international media issues.
