Middle East set to benefit from world's latest wireless telephony technology
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, December 14 - 2005 at 10:51
- PRESS RELEASE
The Middle East is ideally placed to benefit from the next wave of WiMAX products, according to INTRACOM, a leading vendor, integrator and service provider of solutions for mobile and fixed network operators in South Eastern Europe.
WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, including 'last mile' broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul, and high-speed enterprise connectivity for business.
"With the emergence of WiMAX technologies, broadband wireless systems have become a compelling solution for a large part of next-generation networks that provide high-speed wireless voice, video and data services for residential and business users across the Middle East," says Stavros Vougas, INTRACOM Middle East's Managing Director.
INTRACOM is currently in the final testing phase of its WiBAS-Max system, which it is developing in conjunction with its strategic partner, Axxcelera Broadband Wireless, a leading US-based WiMAX systems operator. WiBAS aims to provide end-to-end, integrated and complete solutions for any broadband wireless requirements.
Although WiBAS-Max is a very new system, and has yet to be deployed in any big commercial network, INTRACOM has already presented its WiMAX solution to many network operators and is currently deploying trials with key customers in Eastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa. The first trials are expected to become commercial networks at the beginning of 2006.
INTRACOM was recently awarded a contract worth USD 22.2 million to build the ITC IP network in Saudi Arabia and to implement the Operational and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS). The two-year project involves the deployment of IP network infrastructure, NOC, call center, WiMAX technology and reliable integrated operational and business support systems.
"The Middle East's communications demands are growing at a very fast rate and major regional service providers are looking to work with companies that have a proven track record of implementing large scale solutions for global carriers. That's where INTRACOM has the advantage over its competitors," adds Vougas.
