  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, December 15 - 2005 at 14:37
  • PRESS RELEASE

Tourism Australia's Sydney-based Managing Director, Mr. Scott Morrison, visited the UAE this week to glean some firsthand insight into the market and the GCC region in general which is proving to be a significant emerging market for TA.

In addition to a tour of the city, its major projects and resorts, Morrison hosted a reception at the One and Only Royal Mirage to meet the key travel trade and airline industry executives.

Australia has become a very popular destination for the GCC visitor in the past few years as more and more travelers are lured by the friendliness of their Australian hosts, the fabulous shopping, theme parks, hotels, wild life and family oriented attractions. Visitor numbers from the GCC increased by 20% in the year ending June 2005 over the previous year, amounting to over 35,000 visits. Universities in Australia have also become a favorable choice with GCC nationals. Airlines have increased both routes and frequencies from the GCC, including Emirates Airline which now operates 42 flights a week into Australia from Dubai.
