Education key to UAE Emiratization policies
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, December 21 - 2005 at 16:00
- PRESS RELEASE
Student teachers at the British University in Dubai - the region's first research based university - are praising the university's distinctive contribution to UAE's Emiratization policies.
Currently fifty percent of the student body at BUiD are UAE nationals, including Zulaikha Mohamed who is undertaking a Master of Education (MEd) in the Institute of Education whilst continuing to teach at an elementary school in Dubai.
"Studying at BUiD has been a tremendous experience for me, both personally and professionally. As a teacher in the UAE, I have benefited from the Institute of Education's unique modules in class room techniques, teacher confidence and organisational behaviour," said Zulaikha Mohamed.
The specialised modules taught on BUiD's Education Programmes have all been tailor-made to suit the UAE's education system and therefore teachers such as Zulaikha are receiving the most advanced training available.
"The leadership and teacher development skills I have gained at BUiD can be directly applied into the classroom. Whether teaching Arabic as a second language, or Islamic Studies, I am now equipped with the best teaching techniques available," added Zulaikha.
Demand for places at the Knowledge Village based University continues to grow, and this has been pushed by the news this week that the University of Birmingham, one of BUiD's partner universities, has announced that it will provide a new scholarship for an MEd student in the Institute of Education.
The scholarship is worth fifty percent of course fees, and Master of Education students can specialise in three areas: International Management and Policy, Special Education and English Language Teaching.
Prospective students can learn more about the opportunities available at BUiD's Institute of Education at a special MEd open evening this Wednesday, 21 December at 18:00 hours.
"It's fantastic to see students like Zulaikha benefiting from the BUiD Master of Education Programme. Our mission is to deliver the best of British education here in the UAE and Gulf, and the MEd is designed so each student can directly transfer what they learn at the university into their chosen career," said BUiD's Registrar and Acting CEO, David Lock.
