Masafi continues to play classic role in Golf

When the 17th Dubai Desert Classic tees off at the Emirates Golf Club in February, Masafi - the region's leader producer of bottled mineral water - will again play a major role in the well-being of players, caddies and fans alike.

And at the 2006 staging of the $2.4 million PGA European Tour event, Masafi will have 100 chillers providing more than 20,000 litres of pure natural mineral water, quenching the thirst of golfers and golf aficionados from around the world.

Masafi General Manager Ashraf Abushady said:

"As one of the strongest brands in the UAE, it makes perfect sense for the name of Masafi to be associated with a quality sporting brand as the Dubai Desert Classic. Like the Classic, we believe in being a strong supporter of our own industry which is why in September 2005 we hosted the Second Global Water Congress in Dubai - the first time this has happened in the Middle East."


Over the years, Masafi has been an active supporter of some of the Gulf's most prestigious sporting spectacles including the Dubai Tennis Open, the Go-Kart Championships, the Pan-Arab Basketball Tournament and also the Sportzone - a month-long sports carnival that included events like football, cricket, basketball, hockey, volleyball, table tennis and games for the physically challenged. Masafi also sponsored the recent Motor City GT 500 race at the Dubai Autodrome.

"Masafi is one of our longest established sponsors and we are delighted to have them on board for 2006," said Mohamed Buamim, Vice Chairman on Golf in DUBAI (GiD), the organizers and promoters of the Dubai Desert Classic.

"Many of the players and caddies are not used to the heat in Dubai so it is vital that we have enough water on every tee to maintain their comfort."

Besides DUBAL as the main sponsor, CNN International, Nakheel, Emaar and Samsung as co-sponsors, other Desert Classic sponsors include: Emirates as official airline and Hole In One Sponsor; official caterer, hotel and challenge match sponsor Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa; Official Bank National Bank of Dubai; official courtesy car BMW; and event newspaper Gulf News.
