Australian consultants win Qatar Asian Games contract

The Qatar National Olympic Committee (QNOC) & Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) confirmed today that they have invited Australian Consultants, GHD, to undertake the Project Management role for organising the 2006 Asian Games.
the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
The scope of the contract will include a variety of planning, feasibility and consulting tasks embracing all aspects of the 2006 Games in Doha.
The project is divided into two stages with the first phase focusing on the development of the Master Plan on behalf of DAGOC. This will include planning & delivery of the sporting venues, security, transport, accommodation and opening & closing ceremonies. The Master Plan is due for submission to the Olympic Council of Asia in January 2003 after which GHD will proceed with Phase Two, including detailed planning & implementation.
During December of this year, the Qatar National Olympic Committee will be arranging a large sports equipment & infrastructure exhibition, conference & sports event under the banner of Qatar Sports International (QSI). The Chairman of the QSI Organising Committee, Mr Khalifa Al Subaey explained that "now the decision has been taken on appointing the prime consultant role, rapid progress can be expected on all aspects of the infrastructure development plan". Mr Subaey said that "Qatar's plans to host the games will involve a massive programme of investment worth hundreds of millions of dollars, its our aim to draw attention to this through QSI".
Later this week a team of representatives from QNOC & DAGOC will visit the opening of the Commonwealth Games in the UK on a fact finding mission. The trip will headed by HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, General Secretary of QNOC, Abdulla Buhmaid, Director General of DAGOC, along with other officials. During their visit they will be hosted by Sir Simon Clegg, Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association.
