The waste water plant was completed in a record time of 20 weeks for the stables complex and treated effluent from the plant is then used to help with irrigation of the grounds at Nad Al Sheba stables.

Nad Al Sheba stables comprises 10 stables with an ability to house up to 100 horses and also has accommodation facilities for up to 60 people and includes an administration block and canteen with 25 people working on the site.

Waste water from the horse stable facility is treated at the on-site plant developed by METITO for the complex that was completed with RMJM as consultant for the project for the Engineers Office in Dubai.

METITO (Overseas) Ltd Commercial Manager, Mr Mohammed Wehbe, said: "We are very proud to have been able to deliver an effective and environmentally friendly solution to disposing of waste from the stables at Nad Al Sheba. In a desert environment like Dubai it is vital to ensure that we recycle as much water as possible to be used for environmental and irrigation purposes.

"We were able to use our extensive expertise in this sector to design and implement a cost-effective system that exactly met the demands and requirements of the Nad Al Sheba International Stables management."

Mrs Ruth Soley, Nad Al Sheba International Stables, added: "We have been impressed with the speed and professionalism METITO has applied to this project. They have delivered a very effective waste water management system for the stables with the added benefit of using the treated water to help with irrigation on the site."

Within four weeks of completion of the installation, the plant was successfully commissioned and its performance being demonstrated. The treatment process used at the plant is made up of physico-chemical treatment followed by biological treatment using diffused aeration.

The biologically treated effluent is then given tertiary treatment through chlorination and two stage filtration. Finally treated effluent can then be re-used for irrigation purposes at the Nad Al Sheba site.
